Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 provider not registered

Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB error running HelpConsole2008 on Windows Vista 64 bit operating system.

The following error occurs after installing HelpConsole2008 on Windows Vista 64 bit and attempting to run it:




Cause:

The problem stems from the fact that the MS Jet engine (the DB engine behind Microsoft Access) does not have a 64-bit port. Running on a 64-bit machine will default to a 64-bit web application pool and it will not be able to find the 32-bit version of the Jet engine component. 

Solution:

  • Go to Start>Right Click on My Computer> then click Manage.



  • Under Services and Applications select Internet Information Services (IIS)
  • Select Application Pools
  • Select Default Application Pools
  • Select Advanced Settings



  • Under (General ) change the enable 32 bit applications from false to true and click OK.
